It is light when we wake at 7.00am, light comes an hour earlier here. There is very heavy dew on the grass, rabbits and peacocks wander around the campsite eating grass and not minding the cold and damp. When we walk to the shower block (very good facilities on the campsite) it is so wet under foot that we need to wear our shower flip flops over the grass.
We breakfast, taking our time to clear up and leave. We are away by 10.30am, Mr C drives for two and a half hours. South of Bromsgrove we take an hour’s break, stretch our legs and have lunch. It is 15°C. I am cold and notice I need a cardigan. I take over the driving through the M5-M6 junction which is slow but not too busy.
The M6 is very slow and congested, an accident near Stoke on Trent causes us to leave the M6 and drive slowly around Stoke back to the M6 at the A500, it still 20 minutes faster than sitting in the queue on the M6. The traffic grinds slowly northwards. It is now 4.00pm so we begin to join the M56/M62 congestion and make very slow progress all the way to Wigan. At Preston we fill with diesel and swop drivers again, finally reaching Lancaster about 6.00pm, 12°C, somewhat cooler than we are used to.
We empty most of the camper and finally collapse in a heap… what a trip!
[Later note: 1,500 photos on my camera, plus more on my phone, that will take a long time to sort out. ]
