Tåkern Lake and Naturum Tåkern to Örebro

We have been in Sweden now for a few days and have not found anywhere to empty either our grey water tank or toilet cassette. Before leaving the UK I consulted many websites about motorhome service areas in Sweden and concluded that there were plenty of emptying points, however our experience shows that this is not the case. Motorhome service points where you can empty a motorhome toilet cassette are few and far between in Sweden. There are a lot of motorhomes on the roads in Sweden, so either they know something that we don’t know, or they are emptying their waste somewhere else.

A lengthy exchange of text messages with a friend who is more experienced in Scandinavian travel in a motorhome produced no assistance. We talked to some Germans who had just arrived, but they were no wiser than us, so we decided to head off to the nearest point that had facilities, approximately 40 km away. The situation was getting desperate.

Stopped and filled with diesel, about 30% more expensive than in the UK, and no variation in price anywhere. Paying is quite different too, you can pay at the pump, or go into the kiosk and pay in advance there, you then receive a printed slip with a code which you enter at the pump. If you pre-paid too much you go back to the kiosk with the paper slip and they give you a refund. We purchased diesel using cash because we were not spending much cash and did not want to have to convert it and lose money on the exchange. 

When we reached the motorhome service point we found it was excellent, a purpose-built facility (see photos) at a golf club at Lindesberg. It was free to use, even if you were not staying on the aire. Pity there were not more like that in Sweden. We decided to stay the night because the aire was very nice, and the cost reasonable at 100 SEK per night, about £10. We had just 76 SEK left in cash, so went to pay at the golf club, the young man there spoke really good English. I explained that we had 76 SEK in cash and would pay the rest with a card, he took the cash and said that was enough and gave us a receipt too. 

We have our evening meal on the aire, helped down by a bottle of sparkling Riesling from Germany, excellent wine. We leave Sweden tomorrow night on a ferry bound for Turku in Finland, we have found Sweden rather disappointing, not a lot of good scenery, but that may be due to our route. The birdwatching has been mixed, some very good, some disappointing. Motorhome facilities have been sadly lacking, rather like at home in the UK.
