Gill has to wake me from an incredibly deep sleep, my body aches and is stiff from sleeping deeply without moving. I make breakfast, slowly, it really is much warmer here is France.

On our way out of Calais we made a detour to look at the beaches, but were thwarted in various ways so we abandoned that idea and headed out of town. Stopped off at Intermarché where we took on 71L of diesel at €1.439/L, first time ever that we have paid more that 100 currency units for a fill of fuel, we will have to get used to that, our Hymer has a BIG tank and compared to most cars it’s thirsty, returning around 30 mpg.

In the Intermarché we spend €55 on fizzy wine, milk, cheeses, ham and other French goodies; the checkout service is dreadfully slow, how do the customers ever get through? We are used to Aldi where the shopping is scanned through at top speed, it’s one of the good things about Aldi, the other supermarkets ought to copy.

The weather has turned much warmer, T-shirts and shorts are now worn. We drive on, swapping drivers, until we reach the aire at Lac de Conde. An easier day, but still tiring, we walk around the lake then back to the Hymer for our evening meal. We begin as we mean to go on, with a bottle of Cava, fresh bread and humous, followed by spaghetti bolognaise then strawberries.
