Motorhome route Lac de Conde to Luxembourg

Alsace Wine Route by Motorhome

A grey overcast start to the day here at the Lac de Conde in France, heavy drizzle keeps us inside the motorhome but clears up later in the day. Breakfast is a leisurely start to the day, after which we packed up, emptied the grey water and toilet cassette and were ready to leave. As a general rule we empty both the grey water tank and the toilet cassette at every possible place. We were taught that while touring in Sweden, where you would expect good facilities, but in fact motorhome service points are few and definitely far between. The best we found were those designed for truckers which are located on filling stations. On that trek we had a full cassette after 4 days and were wondering how to empty it when we finally located a truck service station.

Our route from Lac de Conde towards Luxembourg city was towards Metz, and took us into Belgium, the roads in Belgium are free – unlike France – and of good quality, so it’s always worth considering a slightly longer route that takes you on better roads. We found the small aire at Dudelange in Luxembourg located next to a train station. Gill picked this particular aire because of its proximity to the station so that we could leave the motorhome and take the train into Luxembourg city. That’s a strategy that we have found very convenient when visiting busy city locations, and one we’ll use again on this trek.

Luxembourg city is not somewhere that we consciously planned to visit, really it was opportunistic. The aire has 8 pitches and 4 electric points, it is full. We arrived in time to plug into one of the sockets, the electricity is free here, something we have never had previously, even so we don’t use a lot, the only thing that draws power in our Hymer motorhome is the fridge, our water and space heating are provided by an LPG boiler. Some of the power points have more ‘double adapters’ in them so that more than one motorhome is powered from them.

We relax and think about the trip, play games them get an early night in bed.
