Wheeldon Farm campsite near Plymouth to Home

When we awoke it was still raining (back in England again) here at Wheeldon Farm Campsite near Plymouth. We could now see our surroundings: a level, rectangular concrete farmyard (likely the old silage store base) with spaces for about 8 or 10 vans/motorhomes. There was hook-up and water for each included but no drive over drain.

The showers and toilets were a short walk away and not worth it in the heavy rain. We note that this is the campsite for the Wheeldon off-road driving centre. We were very glad there was no off-road driving today, knowing how noisy it can be. With the narrow access, basic facilities and off-road driving, we would not stay here again. For one night enroute back to Lancaster it met a need.

We left about 9.45am and had a fairly uneventful but (as usual) long journey back home, 281 miles and almost nine hours of driving. Usual route of A38 to Exeter and M5 to Bristol, calling off at Cullompton services for coffee. Bristol to Birmingham on the M5 stopping at Michael Wood services for lunch. Back on M6 to Birmingham and on without a stop to Lancaster.

We made fairly consistent time to J.17 where we were delayed for two hours while a crash was cleared between J.17 and J.18. Arriving home at about 7.00pm. We took the trouble to empty the Hymer knowing we would not want to start doing that in the morning.

Had a cooked meal of kedgeree and then to bed! So ends another great trek around Spain and Portugal.
