Hinsbourg to Trier
We stayed at the municipal campsite in Hinsbourg 3 more nights, then turned for home. I always find that a sad turning, but we have a home to go to and things to do when we are back. This tour has been too hot for us, so we have mixed feelings about it. Now we are heading for Trier in Germany then back to England via Belgium although we’ll dip into France and Luxembourg too.
En route we call off at Super U for more shopping, food, wine etc. Another massive supermarket, €78 in shopping. We ate lunch on the Super U car park in 31° heat, not a great experience really. Generally an uneventful journey to reach the riverside stellplatz next to the Mosel river. This is a large motorhome only aire. Fully automated. We have stayed here on a previous tour in 2018 and found it very good. You drive up to the gate and a machine delivers a card, like a credit card, you take that and the gate opens. The card is your key to the services, for example it opens the toilet doors. To use the showers or fill up with water you first have to put some credit onto the card at a central machine. We are staying only overnight so we don’t need credit. The grey water and cassette emptying are included in the overnight charge.
There are a lot of motorhomes here, we wander around and take a survey asking ourselves where all these people have come from. Here’s a breakdown . . .

More motorhomes arrive later too. We walked to the Roman bridge over the river, it didn’t look Roman to me, but I expect it has been repaired a lot or maybe it’s just called the Roman bridge. There is some road noise from the modern bridge close by, the trucks make a lot of noise as they pass over the expansion joints, even so we sleep well.
