Super U parking lot to Collevile-Montgomery

Today, wednesday,  we begin our journey home with a ferry booked on Friday morning from Caen to Portsmouth. We spend most of the day driving north.

The super U parking lot is at Neuille-Pont-Pierre, north of Tours, we need to reach Caen for our ferry in the morning, it’s about 150 miles so we should be able to cover that without problems. We have a 7 am checkin at Ouistreham for the ferry to Portsmouth, so tonight we want somewhere to stay that is within easy travelling distance of the port. We selected an aire at Colleville-Montgomery.

During the night we hear trucks coming and going, probably the drivers are taking their mandatory rest periods here. We are up early, service the Hymer and are on the road by 9:30 am heading for Le Mans. As we approach it’s obvious that the city is preparing for the car race, it is in fact this weekend, so at times we are travelling along the race track. We are glad that we will not be here during the race. Today is really a travelling day, not much fun, just driving and looking out and observing the places that we pass through.

We reach the aire mid-afternoon, set ourselves up on the widest pitch with a strip of grass next to us, then eat ice creams and read. Tea is a leisurely affair and a quiet evening apart from road noise.
