St Liviere to Maurepas
Day 17 of our motorhome trek through Germany and France begins, this marks the start of a different phase of this trek. We are now on the trail of William the Conqueror, moving across France to begin at Falaise. Two days drive are ahead of us to reach Falaise. Today begins with a fabulous sunny morning and already it is is 24°C. We shower, breakfast and service Hymer. Mr & Mrs Grumpy (the Frenchman with the fetish for a clean camping car et sa femme) leave (without a goodbye of course), in fact everyone leaves except one camper.
We are sorry to go, this has been a super place to stay. We leave Ste Liviere on the D57/D13/D14 following the winding route of the river Marne to Vitry le Francois. Onto N4 and a good duel carriageway road, we make good progress to Bernay Vilbert where we take the D636 to Melun, D82/D346 via Evry south of Paris to Ris Orangis. This detour to Evry allows us to shop at Supermarche and buy milk, fruit and vegetables. It is very hot (29°C) and very busy on the roads around Paris. Back on our way on a very busy A6, past Orly airport to Fresnes. Back on N12 past Versailles to Pontchartrain and the D15 through the village of Jouas to the Bassin de la Courance at Maurepas.
This is more like a small car park than a formal aire de camping cars, but we find a spot that we like and settle in, then have our evening meal before setting out and walking around the lake. On the side of the car park I found a tree covered in cherry plums, it’s hard for me to resist picking them. I made a note of the tree and determined to return the next day with a suitable container to harvest them. On our travels I often find sloes, damsons or cherry plums. One of the great pleasures of life is to pick them then steep them in gin to make a warming winter drink. I’ll write a special note about the making and post it. Normally I make special labels for the bottle saying where and when the fruit was collected, it always makes interesting reading when we are back at home on dark winter evenings.
