Our route from Calais to Lancaster
The last day, up and all the usual things to do, breakfast, sorting out the Hymer motorhome for travel – that doesn’t take long, it’s one of the main benefits of a motorhome, there’s very little to do before you can drive away. We know what has to be done, checks on all the things like cupboard doors and loose items that can fly off the table while moving. Before we know it we are on our way to Eurotunnel, check in is quick, and automated, then into the holding area, onto the train and before you realise you are back in the UK waiting for your passport to be examined.
The only disadvantage of European travel is that is takes us a full day to reach the south coast from where we live in Lancaster. 337 miles. Alan thinks there should be a preferential rate for people who live further from the tunnel, it would compensate for the diesel we use reaching the coast.
Once home there is the unloading to get on with, looking over the house and garden to check everything is how we left it, then settling back into life in a house. That doesn’t take long, it’s like swapping from driving on the left back to the right, our brains seem to do it quite easily now.
Lots of memories to sort out and the next trek to plan . . .
