The wind and ocean are still roaring when we awake, it’s a leisurely breakfast again, then a walk along the beach. We both spend time writing our journals and catching up with email, resting too, all part of the holiday. We need time to rest because we pass a lot of hours behind the wheel of the motorhome driving. Our ideal arrival time is mid-afternoon, so that we can sit outside and watch the world before we eat. Last night that was not possible because we arrived so late, so now we’re catching up. This part of France is definitely a leisure and holiday area, there are many holiday parks, water slides, Go-Kart tracks and similar attractions.

After lunch we attend to some maintenance work on the Hymer, I check the oil – no change in level, that’s good; fill up the screen wash, check the water level in the radiator; clean the windows outside while Gill cleans inside. We depart about 1:30pm, continuing south along the narrow strip of land towards Agde and Vendres. The signs read like a wine list, Fleury, the Lngedoc-Roussillon, Narbonne and Perpignan. The land is flat with vineyards wherever you look, Fitou and Corbières are passed.

We are heading for the aire at St Pierre de la Mer where the Aude river meets the Mediterranean sea, we find it easily enough but it is ‘Closed for Maintenance’. There are camping cars and motorhomes about 100 yards along the road so we go to investigate. I speak to a Belgian couple who explain in broken French that the site is closed for cleaning, but will be open soon, all the motorhomes parked here are waiting for the aire to open. So, we park then get out and walk by the sae. Soon there is movement as motorhomes start heading for the entrance to the aire, we follow and are soon inside and on a suitable spot looking out over the ocean. [Later note: We returned here later in the year but there were so many motorhomes crammed onto the aire that there was not enough space to get in. Definitely one to avoid in the busy periods!]

We sat outside but were pushed inside by dark clouds rumbling in, followed by a thunder storm. We sit inside and watch.
