Riksu ranniku hoiuala

It is sunny with clouds and an extremely strong wind here at the campsite at Lümanda, Saaemaa, Estonia.

We decide to have a lazy day and stay another night at Muha-Ranna as it is such a relaxing and peaceful place, tucked away in a secret corner with all the facilities that we need. After breakfast, we walk down to the beach which is not far across the field. It is a wild place. The wind roaring through the reeds and low growing dunes and the blue-grey sea with white-topped rollers, relentlessly coming in off the Baltic from Sweden.

We sit on a lonely wood bench, which I later call friendship bench, because of its totally isolated place you would only sit there with friends or with friendship in mind. We sit on the bench for a little while, a white-tailed sea eagle rises up out of the reeds followed by a flock of angry seagulls who make a lot of noise and fuss as they chase it off.

Later, we look at the map and see that Saaremaa (which I have called Sara-Mae) sticks right out into the Baltic, no wonder the sea is so wild and friendship bench so isolated. In the afternoon, there is a clear blue sky, we spend some time planning what we will do and where we will go in Latvia, then sit in the sun and read.

We drink a bottle of sparkling Cava in the sunshine to celebrate our 47 years of marriage. Only us and two other campers left in the evening. We walk again to friendship bench and watch the ever-changing scenery of the sea and sky over the Baltic sea, a golden orange sunset in the west and a full moon rising in the east.
