at Elciego

No driving today, we stayed on the aire at Elciego, wandered around the town and enjoyed the ambiance in the small town plaza.

The site area de autocaravanas, at Elciego is good, the day is hot and sunny and it is a Saturday in the middle of the Rioja region.

We have an excellent spot on the parking area so decide to stay. We walk up the hill in search of Bodegas. We follow a sign to the Ermita del Roque and Aire del Rosa bodegas but find neither. We find a super boardwalk that overlooks the town where we sit and enjoy the morning. Later, Mr C. returns to the market square with his pencil and artbook, gets a glass of local white Rioja for €1.20. He meets the touring Brits from a camper on our site and they chat. They are well-travelled like us and encourage us to go to Morocco.

In the evening we walk into the town and find the world and his family are sat in the market square drinking beer or wine. The children (many of them) are running around and playing together, we sit and watch until about 9.00pm, it is still quite hot (about 15°C!). This was a great place to sit with a glass of local wine, somewhere that we think about often.

We get back to the campsite and there are ten campers (4 empty spaces). These are soon filled with late arrivals and two more who must go elsewhere.
