Our first motorhome trip to France Cadillac to the Musée de Pruneau
In view of the difficulties of finding the aire de camping cars using google maps (remember this is 2016) we decided to use the tried and tested method of paper maps so visited the tourist information shop in Cadillac and asked for tourist maps of the Lot and Dordogne valleys, not available here, because they are in the next department. We took a local map of Cadillac and went back to the Hymer, filled up with free water and dumped grey water. We could not find the cassette emptying point, we guessed you were expected to use the hole in the ground where the grey water went.
Headed into Marmande, what a disaster that was, such narrow roads with cars parked both sides of the road and a festival so roads were closed. We had to make a very difficult U turn and only just squeezed along the road; the truck behind us got stuck so we had a lucky escape. We were out of Marmande as quickly as possible and drove to Tonneins. Tourist information shop found and were some help. We headed for Bourann or Lafitte-sur-Lot where there were aires discovered on the maps from the Ti shop, after a very frustrating time looking for these aires we again abandoned the search and headed for the unlikely-sounding Museum of Prunes — Musée de Pruneau, there was supposed to be an aire de camping cars at the museum.
This was different, indeed the Museum of Prunes does exist, at a farm that produces prunes. A man came out and guided us to the tree-shaded area for motorhomes and pointed out all the facilities including toilet block. We visited the museum, €5 each, an amusing and interesting visit with tasting of the products, a wide variety of products made from prunes.
Walked to the river then back to Hymer for our evening meal, a lovely evening. We are both feeling tired from travel, we want somewhere to stay for a few nights to recover and recharge our batteries. That’s what we will look for next.
