Riglos to Sos del Rey Católico
Riglos to Sos del Rey Católico
Another scorching hot day begins at Riglos under the Los Mallos stone pillars; well into the thirties expected today.
We watch a slow sunrise and wait for the griffins to soar up on the thermal currents, it is about 10.00am before they venture out (sunrise is 07.50). We drive up the steep hill to the ornithological centre (Arcaz) but find it closed and shuttered and has been all summer.
There is no notice to say why and we speculate that funding ran out, which is a pity to have such a purpose-built research centre not used. We take a last look at the mighty Los Mallos and take the A310 away from Riglos and travel along the Valle de Gallego (river) on the A132. This part of the river has many rapids and is the centre for river rafting and water sports. At la Reine de Jaca we take the N240 and then A21 to Liedana, making a good number of kilometres on these wide roads. At Liedana we take the NA127 (Navarre section) or A127 to Sangüesa and on the narrow A-road up the steep winding hill to Sos del Rey Catolico which is perched on the very top of this hill!
At Sos del Rey Catolico the area for camping is not very pretty but it is a great spot next to the town, on the car park of the sports centre, there is water and grey/septic disposal.
We park up and walk into the town, wander around the steep narrow streets up to the very top where there is always an eglisia. There is a panoramic view, but it is roasting hot, about 33°C. Back at the Hymer we sit in the shade of the trees and eat fresh prawns with our Montsant, white Priorat wine… a delicious end to the day.
