Our first motorhome trip to France Foie Gras farm to Super U parking lot
Today, wednesday, we begin our journey home with a ferry booked on Friday morning from Caen to Portsmouth. We spend most of the day driving north.
At Montignac Fermeaux la Cannard we purchase some duck products. All the duck products are prepared and packed on the farm, the ducks and geese are corn-fed and run free. From the lovely duck farm, we head north on the D704/A20 to Limoges, through Le Brenne Regional Parc (as on the way to Biscarrosse) to Chateauoux, having lunch at Aire de Grace on the A20. Another really hot day (31°C), but we must press on with our journey, so it’s back on the road again: the D951/D11 to Loches and D943 to Tours. Here is was very busy, it was also getting a little late) as we left Tours we began to look for somewhere to stay. The first Aire we could not find but did find the Aire at Neuillé Pont Pierre… the Super-U (supermarket) car park, next to the truck stop!
Not exactly the Ritz, but everything was closed by this time (after 8.00pm) and so it was quiet. Another camper stopped near us about the same time. Turned out to be a lovely friendly French couple (with no English) and we had a good conversation with them. Like us, they had looked for and either could not find or did not want to stay at several other Aires. We decided that, while we would not choose to stay here, we were tired and need to stop, eat and sleep.
We did… still hot in the evening (about 28°C) so had a ham salad and ice cream, sitting at our table and chairs on the equivalent of Asda’s car park… we laughed a lot.
