Motorhome route Kehl (Strasbourg) to 2018-06-23 Alsace Wine Route Strasbourg City to Baiersbonn
Alsace Wine Route by Motorhome
After breakfast we had a slow start to the day here on the aire at Kehl. When we were ready to leave I drove to the disposal facilities and found another motorhome had just arrived there. At busy sites one can be delayed or even have to queue to dump grey water and empty your cassette.
The man from the motorhome was slow, first he filled with fresh water, standing around while his wife talked non-stop, next he emptied the toilet cassette and finally opened the grey water valve to release the used water. What is the matter with people? He could have dumped the grey water, set the fresh water filling then emptied the cassette and been done much quicker. Here, a fill with fresh water cost €1, it was on a timer, so you don’t really know how much water you get, but it’s almost always more than you can carry.
We speculated that today being a saturday, that there would be a lot of ‘freeloaders’ on the wine trail. By that I mean people who have gone to drink free wine with no real intention of buying, we have come across that elsewhere. With that in mind we decided to head into the Black Forest area, it was an interesting drive, with a lunch stop on top of a hill where enthusiasts had been flying huge kites and wings, then pressed on to Baiersbronn where there is a very nice aire with good disposal facilities.
It was not easy to find the aire because of roadworks, which meant a detour, unfortunately we seemed to be lost, until a very helpful man on a motor scooter stopped us and asked (in German) if we were looking for the motorhome stop. I said yes and he indicated that we should follow him, which we did, arriving not long after that. We were very grateful to this man for his timely help.
We were frazzled when we arrived; five other motorhomes already there. There was a laundrette in the town, only a few minutes walk from the aire, so we gathered all our laundry and took advantage, €4 for a wash and €3.50 for the drying, using high quality Miele commercial machines. Our washing looked very clean, maybe time to consider a new machine at home.
After a good meal we walked around the small town, called in both Aldi and Lidl to compare what was on offer, buying wine and a few other groceries. Wine is very cheap in Aldi in Germany. There were a lot of fireworks let off during the evening.
