Our route Reims to Pierre de Bresse

Northern Italy and Southern France by Hymer Motorhome

Reims to Pierre de Bresse

Before leaving the aire in Reims we serviced the Hymer, filling up with fresh water to replace what we had using having showers, and emptied both the grey water tank and toilet cassette.

A long drive today, over 6 hours, it went well, good conditions on the roads so we extended out journey to take advantage of that. Our original plan had been to overnight somewhere around Dijon, but we extended that to Pierre de Bresse. Although today was a long drive it felt better than the previous days, we travelled through rural areas with different architecture. The aire at Pierre de Bresse is opposite an impressive chateau onto which we look through our front window. We sat and ate corn chips with humous and drank Fitou gazing at the floodlit chateau. The temperature here is around 6°C, so it feels much better than Reims where the temperature overnight was -3°C.

Today we filled up with 55L of diesel at E.Leclerc, about 10% cheaper than the previous fill, keep that in mind, the French supermarkets are the cheapest diesel anywhere in France.

Today was a good journey for bird spotting too, it’s not always easy when you are on the move, but between us today we identified Fieldfare, Redwing, Black Kites, Red Kites, Magpies, Starling and Honey Buzzards, together with a large number of other raptors that we could not identify because they were too far away or only fleeting sightings.

As we drove through a valley near Dijon we noted many road signs that read like the wine aisle – Gevrey-Chambertain,Beaune and Nuits-St-George. Tomorrow we will be near Macon.
