Our first motorhome adventure in Europe, a long drive to meet part of the family who were taking a vacation in France.

Each day we travel both of us write a journal to record our progress and significant events. As you might expect the things we write tend to concentrate on different aspects of our motorhome tours.

On this tour, our first, we drove from Lancaster in the UK to Biscarosse, Bordeaux in just 4 days, the distance is approximately 900 miles with an overnight ferry crossing from Hull to Rotterdam. Before leaving on this trek through France we carefully researched places to stay overnight on aires de camping cars, using google maps and satellite views to check the locations. We did not use any of the toll roads in France to keep the cost down and to experience the more rural aspects of the French countryside.

After spending time at a holiday park (La Rive, Biscarosse) we adopted a more leisurely pace and explored the Medoc wine producing area around the Gironde estuary, then moved inland to the Lot and Dordogne Valleys.

We found some wonderful locations to stay with our motorhome, most of them free, and certainly a lot less costly than UK campsites, especially those owned and operated by the two big caravan organisations who dominate the UK campsite market.
