Around Cham, Bavaria

The first day of our American Square Dance holiday, although I’m not sure one should describe it as a holiday, maybe a week of challenging dance. Monday is a holiday so the shops are closed, we spend time exploring the town, visit the church where the organist is playing, maybe practicing, or rehearsing. This is an unusual event for us because we have left the Hymer on the canoe club site in the secure compound and taken ourselves off to the Hotel Randsbergerhof where we are staying with dinner, bed and breakfast provided. The breakfast is excellent and dinners good too.

Over the course of the week we are challenged by the complexity of the dancing and learn a lot. Weather is good and during the week I make journeys to the canoe club to check that the Hymer is still there and collect various things that we had forgotten or take back things we don’t need – like laundry.

Mid-week I explore the town and find a high-quality outfitters shop that is closing down. The proprietor and his wife are retiring, I find cord trousers, shirts and a pullover at bargain prices, high-end brands that I would not normally consider purchasing but at a price that I am happy to pay. I have limited time or I would have spent more.

An enjoyable week, exhausting both physically and mentally for both of us, the end of the week and the final evening dance seems to come suddenly then we are packing our bags and calling a taxi to take us back to the Hymer.
