Camping La Ravoire to Les Deserts

Our last morning at La Raviore campsite. We go to the playground with the children while their parents do some sorting and packing at their cabin in readiness to leave tomorrow. We have coffee together, then the family go to the beach and we say our goodbyes.

It is sunny with clouds but the forecast is for rain. We pack up, service Hymer and are away by midday.

We call at Lidl on D1508 at Sévrier on Lake Annecy and stock up with food and then leave Lake Annecy on D912 mountain road up and up on the Route d’Epagny to 800m and then keeping on D912 onto Route d’Entredozon. The road is steep and narrow with hairpin bends climbing up through alpine villages to the summit at Lescheraines about 1150 metres where they clearly get feet of snow in the winter.

There are good views over the valleys and up and up to the high peaks above. Goats and cattle are plentiful with creameries and fromageries. Keeping on D912 we drop down into the next alpine valley round a series of three double hairpin bends, as it is a bus route we knew we will make it! Passing the ski resort at La Feclaz, we turn onto D206 and the parking plateau at Les Desert at 1300 metres, no snow in June but by the evidence of cable cars and ski runs all around it is a great winter ski resort. By this time the cloud has descended, there are no mountains to see and it is raining consistently.

We park on the large car park with two others for the night (likely the coach park during the ski season). It is about 5.00pm when we arrive so relax after a tricky drive and make mushroom omelette to use the eggs given to us by the family. The darkness comes early, with the low rain clouds bringing heavy rain, so we have an early night.
