Camping La Ravoire Lac D’Annecy
Today we are at Camping La Ravoire, generally we do not stay at campsites, instead we prefer the freedom of aires, we are adventurous motorhome travellers. The lack of organised facilities is no drawback or limitation on where we stay. So far on this trip we have stayed overnight on a variety of aires, and only had to pay twice, once in Calais and once in Tournai, and each of these was a fraction of the cost of a pitch in the UK. Pitch prices in the UK have gone silly, especially for the places that are simply a grass pitch with no facilities.
Here at Camping La Ravoire we are paying the equivalent of £20.50 per night, for that we are getting . . .
- a grass pitch next to a tarmac roadway
- electric hookup
- a dishwasher token for each day of our stay
- indoor and outdoor swimming pools
- large children’s playground with bouncey castle
- shop
- cafe
- fresh water
- waste disposal for grey water and cassette
- showers
- washing up facilities in addition to the dishwasher
Compare that to typical campsites in the UK where you are being asked much more money for less facilities. Don’t forget that this is France too, so we are having warmer weather and great low-cost wines plus exciting food. The downside is of course that we had to travel here, but for us that’s the point anyway, the travel is part of the holiday, bringing new exciting opportunities every day.
Today is for us a quiet day, catching up with jobs. We start with a shower, followed by a trip to the laundry and a clean out of the Hymer. The rest of the family go to Doussard beach, we rearrange our pitch so we are facing away from the sun, pull out the sun canopy and get the tables and chairs set up in the shade. We are set for the week. The laundry dried and put away we meet the family and the children back at their chalet then adjourn to sit by the pool while the children swim and play.
Later, a BBQ with the family, burgers and salad while we watch dozens of the paragliders launch themselves of the green plateau on the mountains. Sometimes as many as fifty at a time are visible.
The evening darkens to dusk and we wend our way to our beds.
