Our first motorhome trip to France the Musée de Pruneau to Penne D’Agenais

Got a text message from Tesco Mobile today to say that I have almost used my ration of mobile data for the month, we will have to be more careful as we don’t want to be paying a huge fee for mobile data. Today we will be travelling through the Lot Valley, first to Pujols a medieval village. A great find, a walled village frozen in time, many old houses, a market place and other features to explore. The woman in the tourist information shop spoke excellent English, we explained the problems we were having finding aires and she suggested we go to the Marie because motorhomes were allowed to stay there for 24 hours.

We found the large car park at the Marie in Pujols, but decided we didn’t want to stop, so moved on to St Silvestre sur Lot, finding the aire behind a large supermarket. It was just a tarmac strip with a large refuse skip. Not what we wanted, our intention was to stay for two or three nights, so we wanted more facilities. Next was Penne D’Agenais, dreadfully narrow winding roads up a steep hill, unfortunately we passed the tourist information shop before we realised and were out of the town on a road so narrow we could not turn around. What a disaster, both of us tired, hot and frustrated by these problems. [Later note: this was 2016, things are vastly better now as our later tours through France and Spain have shown] we stopped to take stock, aire conditioning hardly cooling us in the sweltering heat. We decided that if we did not find the aire soon we would move on, but God smiled on us, around the next bend was a sign for the aire, just 1/2 mile away!

In the office were two young women who lapsed into English when I spoke to them in French, but we got the booking done. This is the municipal aire at the Lac de Ferie, Penne d’Agenais, exactly what we were looking for. Swimming pool, paddling pool for children, pitches separated by neatly-cut hedges, all for €13.24 a night including electric hook-up.

The whole place is a bit run down, in need of refurbishment, but everything works and the pitches are super. Our hook-up cable is only just long enough, that’s a ‘feature’ of most French sites, the power points are a long way from the pitches so you need a very long piece of wire. This place is exactly what we need, Gill went into the pool, I sat outside in the shade and cooled down. Later we drank wine and ate outside.
