Our first motorhome trip to France at La Rive, Biscarosse

La Rive, Biscarosse
We spent a total of four days at La Rive, Biscarosse in the south of France, it’s not very far from the Spanish border. Weather was hot, very hot, too hot for us poor Brits. At times we were so hot we didn’t know what to do, the Spanish have the right idea, rest during the hottest part of the day and work early morning and into the evening, then eat late. I think I could get used to that when the weather is so consistent and good.
The family are packing up today, ready to start their drive back to Stockport tomorrow, with an overnight stop somewhere in France along the way. That leaves us here near Biscarosse on our first French motorhome trip in our Hymer. For us this has been a trial tour, by that I mean we are trying out the motorhome way of travel and holidaying. We are both retired, but do still run a small training business, but we’re disposing of that soon so we want to know whether or not we really like touring in a Hymer motorhome. Our Hymer is a 2004 vehicle, so it’s 12 years old, right-hand drive, manual gearbox.
So far our experience has been of a lot of driving, we took four days to travel from Lancaster to Biscarosse, then we’re been here for four nights, so we have not really sampled the French way of le camping car. When we leave La Rive we have the freedom of the French roads, no definite plans but a desire to explore France.
Our impression so far — we have discovered how huge France is, much bigger than England, obvious you may say, just look at a map, but you don’t appreciate how big it is until you drive around. Our previous experience of France was Paris, where we found the people pushy and rude. How will we find the rural-French?
We have spent our time here at a holiday park, something we would never normally do, it’s been really enjoyable to spend time with our son and his family. We’ll miss them when they leave, but work calls them back as always. For us the real adventure begins afresh as we set out to explore the delights of rural France.
