Alsace Wine Route by Motorhome
A cool, windy day in Lancaster when made the coffee, Father’s Day – cards and a bottle of gin, can’t be bad.
Had breakfast then finished off those last minute things that can’t be done earlier, such as turning off the computers, the water etc. Alan drove the first section in our Hymer B544 motorhome, taking the M6 south, heading for Eurotunnel, that being our preferred way to cross into Europe. One quick stop for coffee, out of a flask – that might sound strange, but it’s a real time saver. Many hours of driving brought us to Folkstone, and the Lemon Leaf Nepalese restaurant. A very enjoyable meal, Nepalese curry with rice and naan bread, then to Eurotunnel where we checked in and into the holding area. Our shuttle train was about 10 minutes late leaving, but made up some of that during the journey.
We made the short journey to Gravelot and the motorhome aire in Calais, €10 for an overnight stay, about 30 motorhomes staying overnight. Clocks forward one hour to bring them onto local French time, then to bed, much warmer here than it was in Lancaster. Sleep comes easily after such a long and tiring day.
