About 3 miles from Penrith, Crossfells Campsite is a very convenient location. 17 hardstanding pitches, most with electric points, a large grass area in the middle of the site. Although the whole site is on a slope many of the pitches are level enough not to need levelling blocks.

There is one toilet, located in a small shed at the corner of the site. Good cassette emptying point, and best of all a drive over grey water disposal point.

Public footpath leading through the site, so you can easily walk around.

Very convenient booking via their own website, so you are not paying a third party.

Overall, a very good site, just the type of site that should be encouraged.

Good points
  • Close to the M6, easy to use for a stopover on a long journey
  • Toilet on site
  • Drive over grey water disposal — a great asset
  • Reasonable cost
  • Friendly staff if you need them
  • Good cassette disposal
  • Many pitches are almost level or only on a slight incline
  • Choice of grass or hardstanding
  • Direct booking via own website (opens in a new tab)
Not so good
  • The entrance gate has a number code that has to be entered every time you enter or leave. It has small numbers so it is hard to read without glasses and awkward to use.
Cost £19 per night; inc electric
