Calais to Home

Last morning in France, the alarm wakes us at 05.25, here on the aire de camping cars at Calais, coffee brews while we wash and dress and on our way to Le Manche for our Eurotunnel crossing booked for 07.20am.
Check in is quiet, no searches, no inspections of the vehicle, straight through to the holding area for boarding and departure at 07.20. We arrive at Folkestone at 07.00, before we left Calais! The roads are surprisingly free-flowing and we make good time along M20, stopping for coffee at Clackett Lane and on to M25. A short holdup around Heathrow, otherwise a straight run via M40/M42 all the way Hilton Park service on M6 north of Birmingham. Hilton Park services on the M6 is a dirty and scruffy place, but parking up with the trucks enables us to stop and have a lunch break and stretch our legs.
We change drivers and Mr C. drives all the way home on M6 to Lancaster arriving home at 330pm. The distance of 360 miles has taken us six and a half hours of driving, an average of 55 mph plus an hour and a half of stops. We unload Hymer and inspect the garden, there is evidence of a lot of rain and some wind, it also feels cool at about 17°C. Over a bottle of Wittman rosé Crémant d’Alsace purchased in Mittelbergheim Wittman website we reflect on three very good and very varied weeks. We have travelled a distance of 1650 miles and experienced temperature ranges from 33°C to 6°C, a difference of 27°C!
