Germany, Denmark and Norway July 2026

This motorhome trek began with a weekend of English Folk Dance at Drax in Yorkshire, overnight ferry to Rotterdam from Hull, drive north through the Netherlands to Barmstedt in Germany (north of Hamburg), for the European Convention of American Square Dancing. Drive north through Germany then to the northern tip of Denmark, ferry to Bergen in Norway. A week touring Fiordland in Norway then the ferry from Stavanger back to Denmark, south through Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands back to Rotterdam taking the ferry back to Hull and the relatively short drive home to Lancaster.

A really enjoyable holiday with a lot of new experiences.

Another epic journey in our Hymer B544 motorhome, 26 nights away, 2,138 miles (3,420 km) driven in a total of 65 hours according to Hymer’s trip odometer.

On this trek we stayed at many commercial campsites, to our surprise it was not Norway that had the most expensive camping, but Denmark! Very few opportunities for staying overnight anywhere except commercial campsites in any of the countries, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark or Norway. Norway had the highest concentration of motorhomes and caravans that we have ever seen, many of them rentals obviously driven by people who were not used to larger vehicles. Be warned, if you venture north the roads in Norway are narrow, winding, have steel crash barriers and low speed limits. There are many, many tunnels, some with steep gradients, underground roundabouts and tight bends, not easy driving in a large motorhome. You also need to register for road tolls. The scenery may be good in places, but the driver doesn’t really get to see it, the driver can’t take his or her eyes off the road for even a glance around.
