Our first motorhome trip to France the Musée de Pruneau to Penne D’Agenais

Our pitch here at Penne d’Agenais is opposite the pool and toilet block, so we don’t have the best view, but we do have the most convenient spot on the whole site. Gill is running out of mobile data as well as me, it seems that google maps is using a lot of data, which is not really surprising. One of our friends back in Lancaster held a post-referendum party, she told us that some people were so upset by the result that they did not feel they could attend. Others are angry, not just angry but fuming mad, they can’t accept the result. These are of course the professional moaners of this world.

We purchased a token for the washing machine €2 and washed clothes, we have been on the road for 2 weeks so there is plenty to wash. We also cleaned the Hymer and remade the bed and did a lot of sorting out. Everything is much tidier and neat now. I put up a washing line to dry the clothes.

We have internet access via WiFi on this site, but need to be close to the office for it to work. While we have internet access I looked for ferry crossings back to the UK, we did not book a return as we had not idea whether we would like France and touring around in the Hymer, so we kept our options open.

After lunch we walked up to the Notre Dame Basilica, a very steep climb with an ascent of 400 metres. It is of course a catholic church, a bit strange to us who come from the Church of England and now the Evangelical end of the church spectrum. We take the bible as our standard of truth so we find it strange to have images of the saints when we assign them no special place in heaven or on earth. The interior of the basilica is plain which is unusual for a catholic church, the  writings (in French of course) inside were very moving. This church is filled with the holy spirit, inside you experience a wonderful calm atmosphere away from the bustle of modern life.  We took the opportunity to pray for two friends with serious health problems.

Outside we followed a series of footpath markers, unfamiliar markers, but once you got used to them they were easy to follow. The walk led us through woods and around fields, further than we expected but very relaxing. On our return to the aire de camping cars at Penne d’Agenais Gill went in the pool again while I sat outside and enjoyed a cold beer.

A good day sorting out the motorhome and washing, then exploring the local area. We think we will stay another night.
