Our first motorhome trip to France 3 Coccinelles and moving on to Hourtin
We found the campsite or aire 3 coccinelles quiet overnight, although there was some noise of thumping music for a summer festival nearby it was not enough to keep us awake. If we had stayed at Le Teich on the area reserved for camping cars we would have been blown out of our bed by the sound so it’s a good thing that we moved away.
There is a lot of vehicle movement this morning, motorhomes leaving, visiting the service point and then out of the gate. Across the road is a water park, with huge slides, this would be a great place for families. We stayed on the aire 3 coccinelles until mid-afternoon, then packed up and drove to the nearby seaside town of Arcachon, it was not easy to find anywhere to park the Hymer, 6.5m long and 2.35m wide, although the tyres will fit into most marked parking spaces.
Arcachon was mostly closed up, just a couple of bars and shops open, and those were crowded with people watching big-screen televisions. We are very strange people, there is no television in our motorhome, and no television in our house. We have constant problems from TV Licensing who find it difficult to believe that anyone does not have a TV. People are always telling us that we are missing out on some good things, but we manage to live without the biased views and hype that is presented by the box.
Arcachon was interesting, with a long pier and fairground roundabout. We spend a couple of hours there then set off for Hourtin, about an hour and a half’s drive north. Heavy traffic delayed us somewhat. The municipal aire cost €10.95 for 24 hours, it had 90 pitches with about 26 occupied. The trees needed cutting back because they caught on the tops of some of the motorhomes.
We had our evening meal and were pleased to get an email from our son to say the family was back in Stockport and that he would be going to work tomorrow. We sipped wine and pondered our next move, we’re 9 days into our first long motorhome tour of France, looking for interesting things to do and places to go. No particular itinerary so we can wander where we choose.
As I write this web page (six years later, using my journal that was written during the trip) I note that we took very few photographs compared to our recent tours. Nowadays we record the places we stay so that we can comment on them, review them on goole maps and add them to this website.
