It is still dark when we wake, Mr C. goes to the cafeteria for coffee but they are not yet open. The notice says they open at 7.00am, it is 7.20am, so we are puzzled, are our phones still showing Spanish time? We shower and go for breakfast around 9.00am, it is still quiet, the TV says 8.00am… we were on Spanish time.

There is no blue sky when the light comes, just a solid grey pall of cloud merging into a solid grey sky and no horizon. No more 40°C and clear blue skies for us, British grey and cold from now on. The sea is reasonably calm and we spend the morning catching up with our writing and journals. After lunch we sit at the front of the ferry and play Bananarama (the scrabble game without a board), the afternoon passes quickly.

The grey sky clears, there is blue sky and a horizon. Mr C. goes outside to look at the birds: gannets, sooty shearwaters and great black-back gulls. We arrive in Plymouth on time. At 4.15pm we are sat in the truck deck with many other campers and are the second row off, out into brilliant sunshine… we feel like moles.

It is busy through Plymouth as the commuter traffic builds. We take the A38 out of Plymouth and head for the M5 and Exeter. Around 6.00pm we decide to find somewhere to stop over for the night, before dusk as we do not want an incident with a tree either. We find Tanpits Cider Farm, just outside Taunton, three miles from the M5.

Tanpits Cider Farm is a super place, an oval of grass with space for 15 -20 campers. We arrive and are number 14. There is plenty of room, so does not feel busy. We open a bottle of our Spanish red wine and drink as the evening darkens. We are back in England safely.
