The last day of our Alsace Wine tour, Calais to Home
Alsace Wine Route by Motorhome
We leave the Aire in Calais around 8.30am arriving at Eurotunnel at 8.45am and check-in.
We do not have long to wait before we board, somewhere near the front of the 9.50am train this time. Arriving at Folkestone at 9.25am (before we left Calais!!) we begin the final leg of the journey back home: M20 ; M25 around London which is very busy as usual. Onto the M40/M42 ; M6.
We finally get home at 5.00pm, very tired but safe and sound. We unpack, open wine and reflect on the highlights of the trip and then have an early night.
We return to Lancaster in the first week of July which is cool and overcast. It has rained so the garden, which is very brown and parched, gets some much-needed water. The water butt is not empty, so we think our neighbour has not watered the pots or hanging baskets for a good few days and half of them are dead.
We nurture most of them back to life, especially the hanging basket and rudbekias potted up as late summer flowers for the rockery. We empty the camper of its boxes of wine and dirty clothes and have the washing machine running to clear the backlog of washing. We are tired too from two long days of driving (800 km or 500 miles) but do not have a quiet time of it.
