Today is our 49^th wedding anniversary. We begin the day, as we usually do, by reflecting on this same day forty-nine years ago and how the events of the day unfolded.

It is cool and overcast when we get up, temperatures around 19°C and a cool fine drizzle threatening, which eventually does come but is not heavy. Our position on the aire here at Tinténiac overlooks the canal (and the vidage by the trees) so we decide on a quiet and restful morning. As we have breakfast and a leisurely sit at the table, we watch a continuous stream of motor homes come to the vidage, empty and fill with fresh water. There must be 12 or 15 of them over the course of the morning, plus the motor homes from our Aire who empty and fill before they leave. Watching how other camping car owners tackle the regular servicing of their vehicles is very interesting and instructive. You often see different ways of doing the same job, and can be highly amused by the illogical way some schedule the tasks, such as emptying the toilet cassette then setting the grey water to discharge, when they could have let the grey water out while they did the cassette.

We catch up on our writing and journals and watching the locals come and go, just what we need after the tiring and somewhat unsatisfactory weekend, so many people… not what we are used to (or like very much). The motorhomes who stayed overnight, two have gone by 9.00am and all but one (including us) are gone by 12.30. We drive through the village to a new and very large Super U-Hyper. We spend about an hour looking at cheese, charcuterie and wine, purchasing more stocks of rosé Cremant, then on our way to meet Roger and Rachel at Rosquelfen near Lansicat (central Brittany).

From Tinténiac we take the D20 and D71 to the N164, mostly a good dual carriageway road to Laniscat, which takes about an hour and a half. The weather brightens up and we comment that the scenery could be anywhere in England in August, green fields and fields of cut cereal with trees and hedges. We arrive at Rosquelfin around 5.00pm and park on the triangle at the back of the church. We walk the 100m to Les Hirondelles and decide that the camper is better left where it is as, while it would fit in the courtyard, it would take up most of the space. Geoff and Pauline (the owners) tell us that we will be fine by the church. We make tea in the holiday house (sausage and mash for Roger and the children, salmon and veggies for us and a pizza for Rachel. The children go to bed and we sit outside in the evening sunshine and drink a number of bottles of wine….

It is a very good evening and Alan needs some guidance back to the camper, not least as one of the back wheels is down a dip making walking inside difficult. Sleeping however, is fine!
