Oye Plage to Home via Le Shuttle

Motorhome journey Oye Plage in France via Le Shuttle to home

Our last day in France, always a sad occasion, 7.30 breakfast, clear up and leave Oye Plague about 8.30 am. Taking D940, the small road through Oye to D219, then D40 on A16 to Eurotunnel Calais, we arrive about 9.00am.

All is relatively quiet, no security checks just join the lines of vehicles ready to join the train due to leave at 09.54. We follow the line when called, down the ramp and onto the train. Some slight delay at Calais due to ‘technical difficulties’ otherwise very slick and easy travel of 35 minutes. We arrive at Folkestone around 9.00am (local time in the UK), off the train and straight onto M20 stopping at Folkestone Services at about 10.30am where we have coffee.

Back on our way about 11.00am to M25 anticlockwise and under the Dartford tunnel. Onto M11 at Epping, stopping at Birchanger Service (Bishop Stortford) about 12.40 for lunch where we have a good break, stretching our legs and change drivers to G. Back on M11 past Cambridge (metaphorically waving to Emily) and onto A1M at Huntingdon and past Newark and Doncaster. There is a fairly serious crash on A1M with queues of traffic but it soon clears and we are not too delayed. Joining M62 west at Ferrybridge, the traffic moving quite well until we get to Leeds where it is busy and slower.

About 5.30pm we stop briefly at Hartshead Moor services to change drivers and back on the M62 with Mr C. driving the rest of the way: M62 to north Manchester, M61 to Bamber Bridge and M6 to Lancaster. We arrive home at 7.30pm, tired but energised to be back home safely from a drive of 374mls/602 km (twice our maximum daily in Europe!). It doesn’t take too long to empty the fridge and remove our clothes and purchases.

We celebrate with a bottle of fizz, have chicken and mushroom pasta for tea, then fall into bed and sleep long and soundly
