Apart from puddles everywhere there is no sign of the storm during the night. I get out to check the ground, it is firm, the dandelion seedheads have been beaten flat and the grass is laden with droplets of water. In moments my feet are soaking wet, it is deliciously cool and the air is fresh as is always the case after a storm. After breakfast we get on our way, from Tlumačov down the hill into Domazliče. It is deserted and huge puddles everywhere with evidence of debris where a tidal wave of water washed down the gutters. It was quite a storm! Onto R22 to Draženov and onto R189, crossing A26 we stop sometime later at Klenčí pod Čerchovem for fuel and top up with LPG gas.

If you visit Czechia here are some tips to make your visit cost less and be more enjoyable.

• Pay for everything in the local currency, DO NOT PAY IN EUROs because you will get a poor exchange rate. Get a Wise debit card and use it instead of a Visa or Mastercard, you will get the best exchange rate.
• Remember that you a walking-wallet and will be seen as gullible.
• Do not buy your fuel etc near the border, the filling stations (gas stations) near the Czech border charge a lot more than the fillings stations a few kilometres into the interior, same with LPG.
• Look carefully at the border crossing; take note of the infrastructure of the former regime, it gives you are uneasy feeling that despite Czechia being part of the EU it has the feel that you are being watched and need to be watched. 

We climb up and up a fabulous forest road into the mountains to an altitude of 635m, the rural agricultural views of cereal and yellow canola are completely gone and replaced by high mountain pine forests. We both comment that we do not remember climbing to such a altitude when we arrived in Czechia last week. Then the inevitable down and down into the valley where we cross the border at Liskova into German with a road name change to St2146! Whoops… no border post, no MOL garage to return the road toll box, we stop and look at the map.

Instead of returning via A26 and Furth im Wald to German we have taken a shorter route but there are no border posts to return to toll box and, more importantly get a substantial refund! No other option but to retrace our steps. Now in Germany we follow St2146 past Waldmünchen taking the Ulrichsgün mountain road following the river through Posthof and climbing again to Althütte at another elevation of about 600m and some serious hairpin bends on the way down. Fortunately we have the road mostly to ourselves, it being almost deserted up here! We drop down to Furth im Wald and retrace our steps (or wheels) on A20 crossing the border back into Czechia and A26 at Folmava (its taken about an hour to do this little diversion, but at least it has been through fabulous mountain scenery).

At the MOL garage Mr C. returns the road toll box and receives the unspent refund, for all this messing about (just like Poland) we have paid the equivalent of a couple of pounds in road tolls! It is now about 11.30am so back into Germany (again) taking A20 past Cham from where we left, then A85 at Janahof, past Roding all the way to Schwandorf. Onto A6 at Schafhof south of Amberg and a long drive past Urensollen, south around Nuremberg, on past Ansbach (and Nagal Stellplatz) all the way to Weinsberg near Heilbronn, just over 200km. We leave A6 at J.38 driving through the small town of Weinsberg arriving at the Stellplatz at about 4.30pm.

There are only 12 places here, Park4Night says to get here early as the places go quickly. There are already 14 motorhomes, but they are parked close together so we squeeze in (car park-style) between two others. There are building materials stored over 3 spaces so we have done well to get the last place. Our hook-up cable is not long enough to reach the column, no matter there is water and emptying. We spend an hour or so resting, writing journals and relaxing then open a bottle of white La Clape wine and drink it with baguette and salmon rillette. Later we cook beefburgers and tomato and watch as many motorhomes come and go as there are no spaces.
