Motorhome tours 2020
Each year we document our motorhome trips on this website so that other owners of campers or camping cars can see where we’ve been and what we’ve been doing. In general we do three things, participate in international folk dance festivals, bird watching and wine appreciation – wine tasting and wine drinking, preferably sat outside our Hymer motorhome in a warm sunny location.
2020 was an ‘interesting’ year with the coming of Covid. We were bombarded by news of what was going on in Italy, nobody had any experience of what was coming. We thought about it a lot because we had a ferry crossing booked from Portsmouth to Santander, and as is our usual practice, we booked and paid for the cheapest ticket, so there was no way we could get a refund. After a lot of thought we went, assuming that we would be able to come back if things turned nasty. How wrong we were! We were in Portugal in our motorhome when Covid really took off. We found ourselves in a bubble, just us in our Hymer, ferry crossing from Santander to Portsmouth cancelled by Brittany Ferries; we managed to change the booking so we could return from Caen in France, then that crossing was cancelled so we had to drive all the way from Portugal to Calais to return via Eurotunnel.
Nothing on the roads as Spain and France went into lockdown. What a strange experience. When we finally got back to England there was no sign of any lockdown, it was weird, as if we had stepped back in time.
Read our adventures, how we escaped from Portugal, travelled across Spain and France trying to avoid Covid areas and stay ahead whilst all around us facilities shut down and the whole world seemed to go mad.
